1. Purpose of Registration

By registering with Patukeha, you acknowledge that this form exists to help Patukeha stay connected with our people, strengthen our whakapapa links, and support our collective decision-making as a hapū.

Registration is voluntary. By completing the Registration form, you agree to the careful and respectful use of your information as outlined below.

2. Māori Data Sovereignty

Patukeha upholds the principles of Māori Data Sovereignty.
This means that:

  • Your information is a taonga.

  • Patukeha, as the kaitiaki of this taonga (your information), must ensure that your details are collected, used, stored, and protected in ways that uphold our tikanga, our values, and our rangatiratanga.

  • Your data remains under the control of Patukeha for Patukeha purposes only.

3. How Your Information Will Be Used

Your personal information will be used solely to:

  • Communicate with you as a member of Patukeha

  • Provide updates on hapū and whānau matters (e.g., pānui, hui, events, newsletters)

  • Share minutes or information relevant to our collective activities

  • Offer opportunities to participate in hapū initiatives and programmes

  • Enable your participation in major decisions, including Treaty Settlement voting (for members aged 18+), where details may be shared only with an authorised independent voting facilitator

We will never use your information for any purpose outside of legitimate hapū business.

4. Who Can Access Your Information

Your information will:

  • Not be sold, traded, or disclosed for any commercial or political purpose

  • Only be accessed by authorised Patukeha administrators who have responsibilities relating to membership records and communications

5. Storage and Security

All registration information is stored securely using reputable third-party systems (such as Google Workspace or Mailchimp) managed by authorised administrators.

We take all reasonable steps to ensure your data is protected from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse.

6. Your Rights as a Member

You have the right to:

  • View the information we hold about you

  • Ask for corrections to your details

  • Request removal from the Patukeha membership database at any time

  • Opt out of communications if you choose

7. Changes to These Terms

Patukeha may update these Terms of Service from time to time to reflect improvements in our systems, our responsibilities, or our kaupapa. Any significant changes will be communicated to registered members.
